Sheep

Our sheep

We have a small flock for training, meat and sales of sheep. We started with Jacob sheep and really enjoyed them other than the fact they need to be sheared every year and it was getting hard on my back. We have a few daughters of our original ewes and ram, that we will keep, but we are switching over to Hairsheep, which are a bit larger with more meat and I don't have to shear them. We have commercial Katahdin, Dorper, and crosses of both. They are easier to winter and more food efficient on hay, plus a larger frame means more meat when processing. We are still in the process of switching and, at this point, we borrow a ram for 45 days for breeding and send him back when done.
